Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 14.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Grafton, Gosford, Bendigo, Ipswich and Northam.
GRAFTON: RACE 7 @ 4:05 PM
YOUTH SPIRIT (5) whacked away to get up for fourth when resuming from a long spell and having his first Australian run in the 2000m McKell Cup at Rosehill last time. Was only a length behind Dr Drill that day and obviously has plenty of scope to improve. Won a Group 3 at Chester UK when second up last prep. Makes plenty of appeal. DR DRILL (2) put the writing on the wall last start when he worked home solidly but couldn't catch Skyman in the McKell Cup. Hasn't won in ages but is proven at this level and will be cherry-ripe at the fourth run back. ARAPAHO (6) found the lead before the corner but couldn't hold out the impressive Le Don De Vie in the 2400m Caloundra Cup 12 days ago. Has been in work for a while but continues to deliver. Big chance on the limit weight. REBEL RAMA (8) scored a tough all-the-way win in a Listed race at Eagle Farm last start. Honest mare with sound each-way claims. BERDIBEK (1) wasn't beaten far last time in the Ipswich Cup. In the mix.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Gai and Adrian's UK import #5 Youth Spirit at good odds.

GOSFORD: RACE 2 @ 12:40 PM
SECRET HUNTER (4) is unlucky to still be a maiden placing in four of his past five starts this time in and this is not an overly strong contest. The extra furlong here looks ideal and he should be right there when the whips are cracking. ITSAGOODDEEL (7) is facing the starter for the first time but looked handy in a recent Warwick Farm trial and hails from a good barn for two-year-olds. Respect any market moves. The well-related DARK DAWN (2) wasn't too far off them on debut and will have taken a lot of benefit from that day at the races. Can improve enough to play a role in the outcome. KARUTA KING (8) strips fitter third-up from the spell and must be respected from the Snowden camp. WATCH THE CLOCK (10) is another at the races for the first time but has shown enough at the trials to warrant consideration in this.
SELECTIONS: Secret Hunter to win.
BENDIGO: RACE 6 @ 3:30 PM
BOWRIDER (5) has the most upside after a strong maiden win last time out, scoring by 1.75 lengths at Pakenham Synthetic. He may be ready to go on with it now from a soft barrier. TOP HONOURS (3) represents a strong danger. He showed nice improvement second up at Sandown-Lakeside behind an impressive winner and looks primed on a relatively quick turnaround. He draws wide but will give this a shake. KWEEN KANALI (4) was a strong winner on debut at Pakenham Synthetic, showing good fight late. No reason she can't improve enough to take this out. LADYMANE (9) has figured in the placings at her past three outings and should make a bold bid again.
SELECTIONS: Backing Top Honours.
IPSWICH: RACE 8 @ 3:34 PM
REGAL EDITION (5) threatened here before overcoming trouble at the start to belt a 58 field at the Gold Coast by nearly 4L. Has an awkward barrier but Orman is re-united and offsets offset that. He should go close. GREEK STAR (9) is speedy and was only beaten 1.2L in the same contest. He also presents as a winning chance. MISTER LARRABEE (8) has been knocking on the door and finds a bit easier than Eagle Farm. Will get back from the rail but can't be ruled out. RIVER ROCKET (1) won't be far away if things go his way.
SELECTIONS: Backing Regal Edition.
NORTHAM: RACE 5 @ 2:55 PM
LITTLE SCHNITTY (6) was quickly back in form just beaten this track/trip and is sure to have come on. High stable-striker CJP goes on first time and the speed-bred filly rates to go one better. PICK AND PAY (2) was also second-up in the same contest beaten 1.5L. He can build on that and get into the finish managing the rail. ALMIGHTY MISS (10) resumes for a top barn and the in-form Harvey sticks from the sharp Lark Hill trial. Is likely to come back better and should have the early speed to manage the awkward barrier. MR FAHRENHEIT (1) has also trilled well for his resumption. He will race over further but can pull out a run fresh.
SELECTIONS: Backing Little Schnitty.
