Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 13th January 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 13.

Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Flemington, Rosehill, Geelong, Gold Coast, Gawler and Wyong.

FLEMINGTON: RACE 9 @ 5:13 PM

TONNEOFGRIT (7) looks a nice bet here. He comes here third-up having run really well here first up behind Pascero, beaten 2 lengths in fourth. He was again behind Pascero last time in an open handicap at Caulfield but looks ideally placed in this over 1600m. MIRACLE SPIN (3) won very well at Randwick last time out and should be further improved. May want a touch further now but will be very hard to hold out with D Lane on. PIAGGIO (9) won well two back before bucking at the start and taking no part last time. Forgive that, he has to be a serious chance. CAPTAIN BRITAIN (8) struggled at Ballarat on the heavy two back but bounced back with a better run last time. In the mix. SUPARAZI (2) can mix his form but is good enough.
SELECTIONS: Tonneofgrit to win.

ROSEHILL: RACE 4 @ 2:20 PM

INFANCY (11) put the writing on the wall last start when she got out late and stormed home to be beaten under a length over 1200m at Randwick. Cherry ripe at the third run back from a spell and while up in class she drops 5kgs to compensate. GALLANT STAR (2) is a model of consistency. Just missed over 1100m here first-up then made amends with a barnstorming win over 1200m at Randwick a fortnight ago. Beautifully placed over the slightly longer trip and he can settle a bit closer today from the inside draw. Serious threat. FIRE TRIBE (10) opened this prep with a couple of placings at the provincials then charged home to get up narrowly at his most recent appearance in a maiden over 1200m at Randwick. Progressive three-year-old who looks ready to take this next step. DEMITASSE (4) probably found 1100m a bit sharp last start at headquarters when second-up. Big chance this time out to a more favourable journey. CHARTWELL (6) has returned in good order and is ready for Saturday company.
SELECTIONS: Infancy on top in a competitive race.

GOLD COAST: RACE 11 @ 5:30 PM

LADY LAGUNA (3) is a consistent mare who closed too well to score by 0.8 lengths last time out over 1200m in the Listed Nudgee Quality at Doomben at the second run of her prep. She'll be at her peak and with McDonald going on can make it back-to-back wins. ROYAL MERCHANT (1) was a class above in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes last start after performing well against the good mares over the spring carnival in Sydney. Draws well so she is capable of another big performance. MISS HELLFIRE (11) broke through for a deserved win last time at Randwick after filling a minor placing at the first two starts of her campaign. Proven here and is in form at the right time. EXTREMIST (4) is very consistent with a string of top-four finishes in stakes races since landing a Listed race at Doomben. Must respect along with JUNQUEIRA (13) who made it two from two at this track with last week's win.
SELECTIONS: Lady Laguna to back up the last-start win.

MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 9 @ 5:35 PM

MORE SUGAR (5) caught the eye fresh when rattling home into the frame here but failed to repeat that effort last start when always well back. Strips fitter on the quick turnaround and gets the chance to settle a lot closer from the inside alley. Will take plenty of stopping. KARAKA KIWI (7) is ticking along nicely this time in, adding another minor finish to the tally last start when just missing at Morphettville. Is 1/1 at the track and trip and gets the key jockey booking of Jake Toeroek. Sure to be making a strong account of himself again. RABTAT (4) made it three minor finishes in a row last start when beaten narrowly here. Carries more weight this time and is drawn well. Hard not to see him getting involved at the business end. SET TO PROPHET (2) next best.
SELECTIONS: Backing More Sugar to win.

ASCOT: RACE 4 @ 3:00 PM

REAR ADMIRAL (1) has bumped into some in-form gallopers this campaign but looks to get his chance this time. Drops back into an easier grade today with 1.5kg coming off for Dhurun. Nicely drawn and looks the one to beat. COMIC HERO (9) resumed with a good win at Ascot and was a second-up winner last campaign. The barrier may be a little sticky, but he's nicely weighted after the claim of Campbell and he'll be making his presence felt. KEEP ATTACKING (6) wasn't far away fresh and now gets Pike in the saddle for his second-up assignment. The extra journey should suit him much better and he'll be right there to pounce if they overdo it up front. LONSDALEITE (8) will appreciate the slight rise in trip this time and can run a much-improved race. FINAL AUTHORITY (7) boasts a strong second-up record and is not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Rear Admiral to win.
