Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 9.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Newcastle, Warwick, Grafton, Kyneton, Pakenham and Albany.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 8 @ 1:40 PM
THE ESCAPE (3) promising Shalaa gelding who returns from a spell of seven months. Goes well fresh and the lone win came on a heavy (10) track last prep. Expected to have strengthened further over the break and two recent trials were full of merit. Since gelded and expected to go close. ROCKIN' MILLIE (10) at her top now and indicated a win was imminent when a fast finishing second over 1000m at Gosford on April 25. Strips fitter and has the speed to take up a position from the sticky draw. NONSHALAANT (9) consistent gelding due for a change of luck. Charged late with the 59kg when third over 1010m at Orange on April 19. Has a good record at this trip and drops sharply in weight with the claim. Don't dismiss. DAME CARTLAND (2) handy mare resuming with a good record this track and trip. Since fitted with two recent trials and will appreciate the drop in grade.

WARWICK: RACE 3 @ 3:04 PM
TYPHOON TIP (5) had been threatening in much tougher races in town before tackling Stakes level at big odds. Suited back to the sprint in this grade and with average luck will take beating. BOOMING LAD (2) peaks and will find this more to his liking than Doomben and the Sunshine Coast. Has a low gate and Thornton is reunited. CRYPTIC SOUND (10) has been within range at Doomben and Ipswich and draws soft. Should be fully fit now and is also a winning chance. CONEY ISLAND BABY (8) has more to give second-up and his best would give him a hope.
SELECTIONS: Backing Typhoon Tip.
GRAFTON: RACE 7 @ 4:25 PM
ELLE MAGIC (12) didn't threaten last start at Doomben when tackling tougher opposition but went very close two back in a similar grade. Rates highly on best efforts and will appreciate the drop in trip. CROWN'M (2) chased gamely into the frame in testing conditions last start at Tuncurry. Was a determined maiden winner here to kick off the campaign. Can repeat the dose. JACINDA BELLE (8) has hit the line nicely in all three runs this time in. Fitter again and gets the chance to take closer order from the better draw. Can give this a big shake. BORN CONQUEROR (1) next best.
SELECTIONS: Elle Magic to win.
KYNETON: RACE 8 @ 4:30 PM
BROOKLYN BABY (5) went out in form scoring at Mornington before winning first-up at this circuit. Will be further improved and another bold showing is expected. ROYAL LANE (7) showed improvement second-up when filling a place at Moe. Is sure to have taken benefit from that run and won't be too far away here. SNAPPY TYCOON (3) has been a model of consistency in recent outings, but only has the two wins next to his name. Is fit and should be around the mark again. FEUDAL EMPIRE (2) is going to strip fitter for first-up showing at Ballarat and has performed well here in the past. Won't be too far away.

PAKENHAM: RACE 2 @ 5:45 PM
SWEET JASMINE (9) resumes having run second at both runs in her debut campaign, beaten narrowly here before another strong effort at Caulfield. Finds a winnable race to kick off in here and will take plenty of beating for the top yard. HELLO MARY (3) made good improvement at her second outing, beaten narrowly at Sale as a short-priced favourite. Should be right in the finish again. DIVINE BELLE (2) was solid on debut at Geelong when fourth. Open to improvement and can figure this time. TRINITY'S D'ORO (10) next best.
SELECTIONS: Sweet Jasmine to win.
ALBANY: RACE 6 @ 6:00 PM
HOW PRETTY (9) improved again winning here as favourite and can make it four on the trot for the Durrant yard. The gate is trickier today but CJP goes aboard replacing the apprentice and he can get her home. IMPERIALIZE (2) won at Pinjarra and then was better again beaten 2L at Ascot in stronger than this. Has been kept on the fresh side and is a decent chance to bounce. ARCADIA STAR (6) resumes and goes fresh. She's trialled well at Lark Hill and last winter was thought good enough to try at Listed level. A chance. GAGE ROADS (3) peaks off the CL5 placing and is in the mix.
