We head to Randwick on Saturday with the Carrington Stakes headlining affairs.

The feature of the day looks a competitive affair with a handful of chances and that could be said about most of the card, including where our first bet pops up in Race 4.

You could make a case for the first five in betting in a field of seven but it is the small field and lack of pressure that have me looking for sharp improvement in Stonecoat.

He dropped right out first up over this track and distance to be beaten some 12 lengths, obviously beyond disappointing but that should bring him on plenty fitness-wise and some of the ratings he ran last time in go a long way to winning this.

He did win first up last preparation which is a worry but then ran two ratings of 102, which at the 56.5kg he has here, come out clearly on top. He set up a good tempo first up but looks to get complete control of the small field here.

He drops 5kg for the rise in grade but has proven he's up to this level in the past and might just be able to sneak away around the turn with Tim Clark onboard.

The other bet I'll be having, again at odds, comes up in the last where Rupertaar has the necessary ratings to take this out at double figures.

She can be a bit hit and miss, but ran a good rating of 94 first up in a near identical race to this one behind Either Oar, starting shorter than that horse (whom she meets again here) before going to the Gold Coast and finding the line well from back in the field.

Fifth there, she rated down on her first up effort but still ran credibly and with a bit of luck from the wide draw here, she's proven her best efforts are up to these. Now we're getting a price back to benchmark grade and I expect she outruns that price.
