Amorino (second past the post) was promoted to first in the stewards room after a successful protest against the first past the post Mr Utopia. Amorino was away well from his inside barrier but end up settling down third last on the fence. The field packed up a little and the short-priced favourite improved his position to be three back on the fence travelling well but cluttered up on the fence approaching the home turn. William Pike angled his mount across heels into the clear on cornering but then was checked by Mr Utopia forcing him to stop riding and switch to that horses outside. He closed determinedly under his top weight (59kg) but failed to score by a neck. The result was reversed by the stewards. Mr Utopia raced on Amorino’s outside in the run. He was niggled along approaching the home turn take the turn three and four wide. He quickened up well but layed in and checked Amorino before taking the lead and finding plenty under hard riding to hold a narrow margin. It was a good effort. *ANZ
