The consistent Rock Magic is now the winner of his last two starts having won the Idyllic Prince Stakes (Listed, 1300m) at Belmont on 31 August. He settled in sixth place before moving up nicely (deep) rounding the home turn. He hit the front at the 50m and then went on to win in good style. Smoko went to front, grabbed a good break at the 200m and was only overtaken in the latter stages for a good second at his second run since resuming. Battle Hero raced outside the leader (Smoko) and kept fighting on well for third. The favourite Vega Magic, a winner of seven of his 11 starts, was midfield on the rails but failed to gain clear running in the straight and his first-up (2.4 lengths) ninth should be overlooked.
