The Les Bridge-trained three-year-old Lofty Ambition won comfortably here, having his third start and his second from a spell. He jumped smartly from his inside barrier and went straight to the lead. He travelled very well in front, got a clear break passing the 200 metre point and then went to the post nicely to score by two lengths. It was a promising effort. Habsburg raced outside the leader and eventual winner to the turn. He battled on quite well in the straight but found the winner too good. The Jason Coyle-trained first starter Takewing was last in the seven-horse field to the turn, got a nice split on straightening and went to fourth at the 200 metres. He then fought on in good style to just grab third, putting up an encouraging effort on debut. *ANZ
