Star Of Giselle had a good run behind the leader Family Crest who was setting a slow pace (first 800m 50.41). She eased around heels on straightening but took a while to wind up in the sprint home, putting in a strong late bid to win by a short head at the post. Family Crest set a moderate pace, before taking a clear lead at the 200m, only to be run down nearing the post, seeming to have every chance. Hi Belle was last in the 11-horse field to the 600m. She went to the extreme outside at the home turn and came with a fast late run to figure in a three-way photo finish. It was an exceptional effort to make so much ground in the sprint home with the leaders coming home in 34.62. Rose Pattern raced outside the leader (Family Crest) to the 200m and held on for fourth, beaten a length at the post. Storm Burst came from midfield on the rails, getting inside runs to finish fifth while Spirit Song was near last on the rails to the 200m before finished quickly, being blocked in the latter stages for one and a quarter length sixth.
