Monkstone was most impressive. He was a little slow to move from his inside barrier (1) but drove through to settle third on the rails. He was urged to improve rounding the home turn, responded to take the lead passing the 200m mark and then raced away to score by two and half lengths. It was only his second start and he is still a little inexperienced but he looks the makings of a very smart colt. Sportegic was about fifth between runners to the home turn, put in a run from the 300m and battled on particularly well for a good second, making a noteworthy debut. Salute To Jude began well and led the field until half way down the straight, fighting on quite well to take third placing. *ANZ
