Second Effort was eased from his barrier (6) and was well back early on before improving, inside runners, to be sixth on the rails at the 700m. He travelled nicely from that point and continued to get inside runs which took him to third on turning for home. He got a nice split at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and then battled on gamely for a strong long neck win. It was a good effort and a great ride from Brad Rawiller. Outsider Academy Jack ($41) was slowly away and was last in the 11-horse field on settling. He improved along the rails from the 600m to be seventh on straightening. He was blocked until passing the 100m and then ran on well for a surprisingly good second, stepping up in class from his recent win in a Benchmark 78 win at Mornington. Launay raced in seventh spot, one off the rails, before moving up (wide) rounding the home turn. He put in a quick run to challenge at the 200m then fought on gamely for a good third. Zamorar was third on the rails, got an inside run to take the lead nearing the home turn, the battled on quite well for (length and a half) fourth. The favourite Pago Rock ($3.80) began smartly from his wide barrier (9) and worked early before settling outside the leader (Mr Make Believe). He was third from the 600m and in challenging position on straightening, but then only battled on in the straight to finish (two and three quarter lengths) fifth. *ANZ
