Maiden filly Dawnie Perfect came into VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) calculations with a strong win, her first win in seven starts to date. She raced back in tenth place (wide with cover) in the 14-horse field before fanning deep rounding the home turn. She then put in a good run, going to fourth at the 200m and then finished too well to score impressively, running the 2000m out strongly. Honesta settled nicely in fourth place, one out and one back, moved up (under riding) at the home turn, challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on for a sound second. Favourite Ambience was sixth, one off the rails, looked to be under pressure as she made a move nearing the home turn, briefly looked a threat at the 200m before battling on to hold third, perhaps being tested in stepping up to 2000m. Bannatyne crossed quickly from her wide barrier (12) went to the front, ran along, setting a solid pace and held on quite well for fourth, beaten just under three lengths.
