The Ciaron Maher-trained colt Jukebox was impressive in winning here, remaining unbeaten after two starts. He settled nicely in fifth place on the rails, got through on the inner on turning for home, hit the front at the 200m and then drew away to score a very smart win. The Tony McEvoy-trained colt Coppergate put up a promising effort, racing on debut. He settled back in ninth place on the rails, improved along the inside rounding the home turn, got through to third at the 200m and kept running on well for a good second. The Paul Perry-trained Perast soon drove though along the rails to lead, showing good pace. He then travelled a bit keenly, drifted a little deep rounding the home turn, was headed at the 200m and then held on for third in a sound performance at only his second start and at his first run in Melbourne.
