Legless Veuve is now the winner of three of her six starts and she put up a smart effort in winning here at her first run since October. She was quickly away from barrier nine and then settled well outside the leader (Into Orbit). They then steadied the tempo (first 600m in 37.17) before lifting the pace nearing the home turn. Legless Veuve got the better of her main rival on passing the 200m and then went on to score a very good win (last 600m in a quick 33.65). Into Orbit began well and went to the front. He was headed halfway down the straight but then fought back gamely for a very good second in a really smart run at only his second start. Hey Doc was a handy fourth, went to third at the home turn and kept battling on nicely in the sprint home for third. The favourite Derryn settled well in fifth placed on the rails from his good barrier (2). He got along the inner to be third at the 200m and held on well, in the sprint home for (1.9 lengths) fourth in a sound first up run. Godolphin’s Sandown Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) winning colt Morton’s Fork did not show any early pace from his inside barrier (1) and settled back in eighth place on the rails. He switched out on straightening, went to fifth at the 200m and fought on well in the sprint home to retain at position at the post (beaten 3.2 lengths) in a pleasing first up run.
