The Paul Perry-trained Perast staged a smart effort in winning here. The colt had over-raced in recent starts in Sydney but settled quite well for Damian Lane outside the leader (Summer Passage). He put pressure on that runner rounding the home turn, got to the front at the 100m before going on to score a good win. New Zealand-trained colt Summer Passage began well and soon took the lead. He steadied the mid-race pace and then fought back gamely when challenged in the straight to finish second in a promising second up effort. Kementari had a good trip in third place, challenged nearing the 100m and kept battling on well, albeit after having had every chance. The previously unbeaten colt Royal Symphony again settled well back in the field. He was still eighth passing the 600m, commenced his move nearing the home turn and made ground in the sprint home for (3.5 lengths) fourth, clocking a quick 33.91 (last 600m).
