The Liam Birchley-trained filly Flamenco scored a narrow but good win, doing well to win in Listed class at her first start. She settled back in seventh place, one off the rails. She was asked to improve on passing the 600m, Larry Cassidy switched her to the rails at the home turn (saving a lot of ground) and they got through to third at the 150m. She then fought out a good finish, holding a narrow margin to the post to win by a half head. The favourite Flamenco Girl began well, settled in fourth place on the rails. She was under riding approaching the home turn, improved to third at the 300m and kept responding to Michael Cahill to fight out a close finish, failing narrowly for a sound second, racing in a manner to suggest that she will appreciate further. Sweet Repeat was quickly away, showed good pace and led the field until the final 100m before weakening for third, beaten just over a length. Sailor Gerri was second to the 200m and held on fairly well for (5.4 lengths) fourth.
