The favourite Mighty Lucky settled back in eighth place, behind a very solid pace. He improved well (wide) from the 600m, moved up strongly shortly after turning for home, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to score impressively. Pajaro went back from his wide barrier (12), raced near the tail of the field before getting along the rails in the straight and kept making ground for a good second. Malice settled in tenth place, one off the rails, before commencing a wide move from the 600m. He briefly looked a threat at the 100m and then fought on to take the minor placing. Hopfgtarten was a handy fourth but trapped wide. He made a quick run to take the lead at the home turn, and did well in holding on fourth.
