Analysis: Solzhenitsyn worked across from his wide barrier (11) to take the lead at the 1000m. He was pressured by Transporter coming to the turn and they had a great battle all the way down the straight with Solzhenitsyn proving a little too good on the day, winning gamely by a short neck. Transporter led early before easing to be second at the 1000m. He quickly came away from the rails and then raced at the girth of the leader Solzhenitsyn, increasing the tempo from the 600m and he continued to fight on strongly from that point for a brave second. Epic was third on the rails most of the way to the home turn. He was ridden hard from the 300m and kept battling on, with threatening the first pair, for third. The New Zealand mare Zennista was fourth to the home turn and kept plugging on well in the straight to hold fourth (beaten one and three quarter lengths) at the post. Ibicenco was last in the 11-horse field to the home turn. He kept plugging on well in the straight, making good ground for fifth, beaten just under two lengths, putting up a sound trial for the Brisbane Cup (Gr 2, 2400m) on 8 June. *ANZ
