Godolphin's talented four-year-old Impending continues to race in top form, now winning five (with eight placings) from 17 starts, in taking out this Group One feature, his second success at the elite level. He was eased by Damian Browne to settle in seventh place (between runners) before taking a split on turning for home and he then came with a timely late bid to grab victory in the last few strides. Le Romain went to the front, forged the early pace, was pressured nearing the 600m, got a break at the 200m, looking the winner, only to be caught on the post for a very close second in another very good performance. Three-year-old filly Champagne Cuddles raced in sixth place (wide with cover), moved up (deep) at the home turn, sprinted smartly to challenge at the 200m before fighting gamely for third in a very good effort in this class. Recent Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1200m) winner English had a good trip again in fifth spot from an inside barrier, got along the inner from the 200m before fighting well for fourth, beaten just under two lengths, while Endless Drama was handily placed but caught deep, moved up (three wide) nearing the home turn and then held on well for (3 lengths) fifth.
