Quintessential showed good early pace and settled in second place before moving up outside the leader (Voila Ici) at the 800m. She forged to the lead at the 300m and then fought back determinedly all the way to the post for a narrow but strong win. She then also survived a protest for against some interference in the early stages of the race. Manighar had a good run fourth one off the rails before following up the subsequent winner at the 600m. He put in a quick bid at the 100m but was out-gamed by the winner for a close second - and then failed in a protest for an early check. Voila Ici went to the lead and ran along at a good pace from the 1600m. He fought back well in the straight for a sound third, beaten just under a length. Moriarty was fifth on the rails in the small six-horse field before being shuffled back to last at the home turn. He made some ground in the straight for fourth without looking a winning prospect. Lights Of Heaven was fifth one of the rails to the 800m but was under pressure from the 600m and failed to run on in the straight to finish disappointing fifth. *ANZ
