Galah settled past midfield and improved but was extremely wide from the 700m. He turned for home in the middle of the track but he kept running on well and grabbed a last stride win in a photo, putting up a good performance. Conservatorium raced on the pace being outside the leader (Celtic Dancer) to the turn. He challenged at the 200m and fought on gamely, failing by the shortest possible margin for good second. Griffon was near the rear and was shuffled back to last at the home turn. He was finally able to ease across heels at the 200m and then ran on very well for a late-closing third. Border Rebel was third on the rails, took an inside run at the turn and looked the winner when clear at the 200m. He only wilted in the closing stages for a close fourth. The favourite Mahisara had a good run being about fifth on the rails to the home turn but he failed to run on, finishing a disappointing twelfth. *ANZ
