Moriarty was smartly away and then eased to enjoy a perfect trip behind the leader. He was full of running but was held up for a run on turning for home. Nash Rawiller finally got him through a split at the 200m and Moriarty then drew clear for a good win. Mr O’Ceirin travelled well outside the leader. He got to a narrow lead half-way down the straight and then kept fighting on for second. Floria was fourth one out and one back, moved up three deep nearing the home turn and then kept fighting on in the straight for third. Wistful soon took lead and she was able to set an average tempo in the mid-stages. She held the front until the final 200m before tiring for fourth. The favourite Akzar was fifth on the rails to the 600m, looked for a run in the centre on turning for home and then kept battling on for fifth, being unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race. *ANZ
