De Fine Lago travelled along well in sixth place one off the rails to the 600m. He switched out four wide approaching the home turn, challenged at the 400m and dashed clear at the 300m point. He then kept fighting back strongly and lasted to win well by a half neck. Outback Joe was fourth one out a one back before moving up three wide at the turn. He got to second at the 300m the then kept plugging on gamely, continually making ground for second. The three-year-old Cooldini ($1.95 fav) raced along comfortably outside the leader (Sahara Sun) most of the way and took the lead turning into the home straight. But he only held that advantage to the 300m and he struggled from that point, just holding for third, beaten just over six lengths. *ANZ
