Makybe Diva Stakes (G1)

Age: 3yo and up Type: OPEN

Foreteller was ridden quietly in the early stages and settled third last in the 14-horse field. He was giving the leader at least ten lengths passing the 800m, before improving with cover rounding the turn. He switched around heels at the 300m and came with a quick late run to grab a narrow but impressive victory. The favourite Puissance De Lune was about tenth, one off the rails, following a moderate early tempo (first 1000m 62.10). He moved up (wide out) rounding the home turn, put in a good run at the 300m to take a narrow lead at the 100m. He was only caught right on the post for a close second. It was very good effort and he still looks on track for his Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) bid. Moudre settled near last on the rails and was still well back on turning for home. He did not get into the clear until the 200m and he then came for a strong late run for an excellent first-up third. The outsider Let’s Make A Deal, having only her ninth start, travelled nicely in sixth place one off the rails before tracking into the race three wide with cover at the turn. She challenged strongly at the 200m and fought on particularly well for a good fourth after facing a big rise in class. Ethiopia was a handy fifth one off the rails before putting in a run on turning into the straight. He challenged at the 400m and fought on well for a good first-up (three lengths) fifth. Manighar (sixth) was about eighth to the turn and fought on nicely in the straight while Mourayan made up good ground late for seventh. The German import Waldpark was handy on the rails and held on fairly well for eighth while the smart WA performer Mr Moet was prominent most of the way but had trouble getting fully clear in the straight before finishing (three and half lengths) ninth. The classy European import Sea Moon was always well back and looked disappointing at his Australian debut finishing (five lengths) twelfth. *ANZ
