Commanding Jewel enjoyed a good trip about seventh, one off the rails, travelling well. She moved up on turning for home and commenced a good run passing the 400m, getting to the lead at the 100m mark. She then drew away to score nicely by half length. Catkins raced behind the leader (Octavia) until half way down the straight. She got to a narrow lead at the 100m and fought on nicely for a good second. A Time for Julia was about sixth to the turn, before switching out passing the 400m to challenge at the 200m. She then kept fighting on for a sound third. Bonaria was midfield and three wide to the 600m. She made up good ground in the straight for a late-closing fourth. The classy staying mare Quintessential was near last on the rails to the turn before running on very well for an eye-catching fifth on resuming. Octavia led the field to the 100m before tiring late for sixth while the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Dear Demi ran on strongly, late for a bold first-up (two and half lengths) seventh. *ANZ
