Magicool was away from the barriers well and taken forward by jockey Glen Boss to settle into stride around a length off the pace setter, Hawking. Tracking three wide in fourth place coming off the bend, Magicool took up the running inside the 400m and was never in danger of being collared late on by Atmosphere, who finished in second. Atmosphere had been settled third last in the early stages and was eventually tracking the winner off the turn. War Point had a nice run on the rails in fourth throughout and maintained that position in the straight. He had a clear run and would have won if finding enough but was perhaps a little isolated out on the rail alone.
