Signoff relaxed well in fifth place, following a moderate pace. He moved up nearing the home turn, easily went to the front passing the 300m and then went on to win comfortably by two and a half lengths securing a place in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m). Big Memory had an ideal run in third place to the turn. He went to second at the 200m and then fought on to hold that position to the post, having no chance with the winner. La Amistad was back in seventh place, one off the rails, put in a run on turning for home and kept battling on for (4.5 lengths) third while the second favourite Caravan Rolls On was a handy sixth to the turn but failed to run on, finishing a disappointing (9.1 lengths) eighth.
