A surprise result with Bonaria running on strongly to defeat her more fancied rivals. She settled well back in the field in 13th place, following a solid tempo (first 1000m 60.00). She was giving the leaders about 12 lengths nearing the turn, fanned deep on straightening and ran on strongly in the centre of the track to score by a length at the post. Sweet Idea enjoyed a good run in fourth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), before challenging at the 200m. She then kept fighting on in good style for second, beaten a length, just failing to run out a solid 1600m. Catkins also enjoyed a nice trip, racing in fifth place, one off the rails. She looked a strong chance when she challenged at the 200m and then fought on for a good third. Solicit did not look for the early lead and settled back in seventh place, between runners. She got a split, going to fourth at the 200m then battled on to hold that position to the post for (1.6) lengths fourth. Estonian Princess came from beyond midfield, after being wide with cover and fought on very well for a good (1.7 lengths) fifth. Girl Guide used her early pace to overcome her poor barrier (16) to be in second place to the turn. She hit the lead at the 200m before another game effort in finishing (1.8 lengths) sixth. The favourite May’s Dream was caught midfield and wide, put in a run at the 300m then battled on for (2.9 lengths) eighth, now looking suited to further.
