Queensland-trained filly Hijack Hussy scored a smart win. She settled midfield, one off the rails, following an average early tempo (first 800m 50.08). She was going well, behind a large group nearing the home turn and angled into the clear at the 300m. She then showed a very good turn of foot going to fourth at the 200m and finished too well to score by just under a length, going away, looking likely to progress to even better things. Sea Spray was about tenth, three wide with cover. She continued to track up behind runners before fanning out at the 400m and she looked the winner when she grabbed the lead at the 200m. But she could not then hold off the late challenging winner to finish a sound second, beaten three quarters of a length. The SA-trained filly Coachella was eighth between runners, racing a bit keenly in stages due to the moderate early tempo. She got clear to challenge at the 200m and then battled on quite well for third. The favourite Wine Tales drifted back to settle midfield on the rails from her good barrier (4). She was hemmed behind a packed field at the turn and never really saw any clear racing room in the straight until too late and her (5 lengths) fifth should be overlooked.
