Ciaron Maher-trained gelding Loch Oir followed his promising debut win at Warrnambool in a Two-Year-Old Maiden (1300m) on 10 July to win narrowly but well. He was second early on before settling in third place on the rails. He got along the inner at the 300m, got to the front at the 150m and then fought back to score gamely, running the 1400m out well. Odeon was fourth, one out and one back, challenged at the 300m and then battled strongly for a good second, putting up a promising effort at only his second start. Back To The Bowler went to the front, held the lead until the 300m and held on to dead-heat for third with Stately Boy who came from sixth at the home turn, making good late ground.
