Extra Choice, racing in blinkers for the first time, scored a good win. He began well and crossed to settle in ninth place on the rails, following a good tempo before switching out to improve from the 700m. He moved up well rounding the home turn, ran to the front at the 100m and appeared to win with something in hand. Jadeer had a good trip in fourth place on the rails, got a split at the home turn, went to the front at the 200m and battled on well for second after seeming to have every chance. Favourite Pay Up Bro went back from his outside barrier (16) and settled back in 14th place. He was under riding to improve from the 700m, fanned very deep rounding the home turn and kept running on in a dour fashion to take third, looking suited to the longer trip of the upcoming Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m). Ragnaar travelled well in seventh place on the rails, got a nice split shortly after turning for home, challenged at the 200m and then battled on for fourth beaten 1.9 lengths. Robert Smerdon- trained filly Dulverton was well back near last in the 16-horse field to the 700m. She looked for a run in the centre on straightening and made good late ground for fifth, putting up an effort at only her fourth race start to suggest she has claims in next month’s VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m).
