Famous Seamus was quickly away and led briefly before being eased to settle fifth on the rails following a solid pace. He got an ideal inside run at the home turn and went through to be second at the 300, taking the lead at the 200m. Although tiring nearing the post, he had enough in hand to win quite well by a neck. River Lad was sixth one off the rails before moving up wide approaching the home turn. He got to fourth at the 300m and kept running on well, making late ground to finish second, beaten only a neck. Fire Up Fifi was well back, past midfield at the 600m. But she got a nice run at the turn, a split at the 200m and finished well for third. The favourite Mahisara worked from barrier 12 to lead then set a solid pace being a clear leader to the 300m. He tired from that point to finish fourth, beaten just over a length and a quarter, which was a sound effort considering his early efforts. *ANZ
