Bjorn Baker-trained filly Lady Sniper put up a really smart effort to score here, having her second run this preparation. She was ridden quietly and settled in third last place in the 12-horse field, behind a quick pace (first 600m 34.50). She got a run between runners at the home turn, switched out nearing the 100m and then finished fast to win impressively. Kimberley Star was near last on the rails, saved ground on the inner at the home turn and went to third at the 100m. She then fought on well for a sound second, finding the late-closing winner too good. Chetwood showed good pace from his outside barrier (12) and was caught three wide without cover outside the leading duo (Redzel and Aegean Sea). He then battled on quite well in the straight to hold third after a difficult trip. Magic Alibi had a good run in sixth place on the rails, got through to second at the home turn and then battled on to hold fourth, just in advance of the favourite Redzel who worked to retain the lead before tiring late for fifth.
