This looks a good form race with the Kim Waugh-trained filly Never Out winning in good style on debut. She began well but was forced to work before finding the lead nearing the 600m. She got a break on straightening and then lifted gamely after her early efforts to score quite impressively, and in smart time (57.72). The well-supported favourite Good Time Charlie, from the Joe Pride stable, was slow to move, was last early on in the nine-horse field before improving (between runners) coming to the home turn. He then went deep, raced a bit greenly, before coming with a late run for second in a promising first up effort. Second Step was third in the early part, she went to second nearing the home turn and only narrowly missed holding that position at the post in a promising debut run.
