Previously unraced three-year-old Royal Occasion ($1.65 fav) beat his older rivals on debut. He was a bit slowly away from his inside barrier (1) and settled seventh on the rails, following a moderate pace. He angled for a rails run shortly after turning for home, got through to take a narrow lead at the 100m and battled on to score nicely by a neck. He looks suited to further and has potential. *ANZ
