Anagold raced near last on the rails in the 16-horse field and was giving the leaders about ten lengths at the 800m. She was under riding from the 600m and got a good run on the inside as the field went wide (looking for better going) at the home turn. She slipped through to take the lead at the 200m and battled on nicely to win by a long head. High Kin was seventh on the rails, went between runners at the 700m, fanned wide on the home turn and ran on well in the straight for a late-closing second, failing only by a long head. Za Magic set the pace as expected. He was pressured from the 800m and kept fighting back well after leading the field until the 200m point for third. Topping raced outside the leader most of the way and fought on nicely for fourth while the favourite Voila Ici ($4.50) had a good trip in fourth spot before moving up three wide at the turn. He then appeared to have every chance before finishing fifth. *ANZ
