Clevadude began well from his outside barrier (6), was ridden hard in the early stages and crossed to the lead after going 200m. He then steadied the pace and settled nicely before dashing clear rounding the home turn. He held on well in the straight to win nicely by a length in a smart first-up performance. The NZ colt Cauthen was eased in the early stages, but held fourth spot on the rails, travelling a bit keenly. He was cramped for room at the first turn and raced greenly, losing ground. He was back several lengths and under riding at the home bend, however, he responded nicely from the 150m and was closing well in the latter stages for a sound second at his Australian debut. He should benefit from the experience at Moonee Valley and seems suited to further. Weinholt was smartly away and worked early before settling outside the leader (Clevadude). He was under pressure from the home turn but kept battling on quite well to take third. This Is War was eased at the start and settled last in the six-horse field. He got through, along the rails, to be a distant fourth on turning for home and held his position in the straight to finish fourth, beaten six lengths. *ANZ
