Cauthen was very impressive. He was a little slow to move but quickly improved and settled fourth, one out and one back. He moved up nicely three wide approaching the home turn, dashed to the lead at the 200m, then ducked in suddenly towards the inside rails (but when clear of other runners) and he went to the post easily for a soft win. He looks a classy colt. Shamus Award had a nice trip, third on the rails to the turn. He eased across heels shortly after straightening and ran on well, without threatening, for a good second. The previously unbeaten Long John began well but was trapped wide from his outside barrier (8) and went back to last. He switched out wide nearing the home turn and continued to make up ground for a good third. It was a nice effort under the circumstances. Weinholt was sixth one off the rails to the 600m and then kept battling on quite well in the straight for fourth. The well-supported Clevadude showed his usual pace and led the field to the 200m point, but he disappointed from there, tiring for last. *ANZ
