Sweet Sherry, proving to be a Moonee Valley specialist, was a step slow to begin from her outside draw in the field of 13. Jockey Steven Arnold allowed her no time to settle and pushed up widest to be slightly worse than midfield passing the 900m. Arnold sat quietly down the side, five wide, then the pair cruised up to be just in behind the leaders approaching the short home straight. At the 200m they were travelling well and gradually edged into the lead inside the last 50m to win well, after covering more ground than anything. Prompt Response was third when they settled then sat less than a length outside the leader (Overstep) down the side. Sharing the lead around the last corner she took over narrowly at the 200m but could not withstand the winner's better finish, fighting strongly to hold second. Overstep led them from the jump, down the side and into the last corner, was overtaken at the top of the straight but never gave way and fought on very well for third.
