First Among Equals staged a good first up performance in winning here and is now likely to progress to The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) at Morphettville on 20 May. He was smartly away and settled in fourth place, between runners, before getting a split to challenge nearing the 200m. He then finished gamely for a narrow but impressive win. Madassa, who was having his first start for 15 months, raced outside the leader (Potent Secret), went to the front at the 300m only to be overhauled nearing the post for a very good second. Battle Hero, who was also resuming, settled in fifth place but trapped wide. He put in a good run on straightening, got third at the 200m and battled on well to hold that position to the post.
