Guelph settled past midfield early and was a distant tenth nearing the home turn. She looked for a run in the centre on straightening, switched out passing the 200m where she was giving the leader about six lengths. But she finished very strongly and grabbed a last stride win in impressive style. Fuerza worked across from his wide barrier (12) to lead but raced a bit keenly in blinkers. Jim Cassidy let him stride along from the 800m and the colt turned for home with a six lengths lead. He tired from the 100m, battling on to fight out a photo finish being beaten by the narrowest of margins. Equator, a winner of his only two previous starts in much weaker company, chased the tearaway leader from the 800m point and fought on particularly well for a close third. Drago was slowly away from his wide barrier (13) and was last to the turn. He got a nice run through passing the 300m, getting to fifth at the 200m then continued to run on well for a close fourth. He looks suited to further and could develop into a very handy stayer. Fast ‘N’ Rocking was a distant seventh on the rails at the 600m and got a good run on straightening, improving to fourth at the 200m then battling on for fifth. Criterion was again slowly away and was near last to the 600m, went very wide at the turn and made a lot of ground for sixth, putting up a very good effort. *ANZ
