The Sydney Carnival concluded with a Darley quinella. Rarefied, who had a good run in seventh place in between runners, followed a quick pace (first 600m 34.83). He got a clear run topping the rise, took the lead at the 100m and battled back to win by a neck. His stablemate Skytrain was midfield on the rails, got an inside run passing the 300m, challenged at the 100m failing narrowly to finish second. See The World was last in the 15-horse field at the turn. He sneaked through on the rails on straightening, switched out at the 100m and came with a late run for a good third. Title, who worked from his outside barrier (15) to lead and was then pressured in front, did well to hold on for fourth. Manawanui came from near last at the 600m, pushed out at the 200m and ran on for a sound first-up fifth. The favourite Decision Time was about eighth one off the rails between runners at the 600m. He got into the clear at the 200m and made ground for sixth without looking a winning chance. Fat Al was trapped very wide all the way and his first up twelfth probably should be overlooked. *ANZ
