The smart Peter Moody-trained mare A Time For Julia was quickly away but was caught wide from her barrier (11) and eased to settle just past midfield, trapped deep. She was giving the leader about seven lengths at the 600m, switched wide at the 400m and ran on gamely to hit the lead in the last few strides. It was a smart effort after a difficult trip. Lilliburlero was a little slow to move from her inside barrier (1) and was urged to improve. She drove through along the rails and soon took the lead but was then pressured in front. She took a clear lead at the 300m and was only headed nearing the post for a close second, putting up a good performance after having things go against her in transit. Recoinage raced in eighth place, one off the rails. She put in a good run after passing the 300m and kept fighting on well for a sound third. Single Style was eased from her outside barrier (13) and was last to the 600m point. She went to the centre of the track at the 300m and continued to run on well for a good fourth. Avoid Lightning settled just past midfield, was held up between runners on straightening and ran on nicely in the latter stages for a good first-up fifth for her new trainer Les Bridge. *ANZ
