Tiger Tees was very quickly away but Glyn Schofield kept him a bit wide in the early stages before crossing to a clear lead at the 1000m. He then set a moderate tempo and Schofield again kept him away from the rails from the 600m point, holding a narrow lead on passing the 300m. He then grabbed a break at the 100m and went on to score nicely by a length and a quarter, performing well on his preferred rain-affected going. Royal Descent travelled well in third place on the rails, got an inside run from the 600m to challenge nearing the 200m and she then held on quite well on for second, in an encouraging first-up run. Criterion was fourth on the rails, following a very steady pace. He got a split and went to third at the 200m and then fought on to hold that position to the post putting up a sound effort at this first start since winning the ATC Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) in April. Sacred Falls was a handy third (without cover) most of the way to the 600m, put in a brief bid at the 300m and then battled on fairly well for (1.6 lengths) fourth at this first run since April. Hawkspur was near last in the seven-horse field, wide without cover. He moved up (deep) rounding the home turn and fought on quite well for (1.7 lengths) fifth. Weary was second last to the 600m, was under pressure from the home turn and just battled on for (3 lengths) sixth while My Kingdom Of Fife put up a reasonable first-up effort making up some ground to finish (4.5 lengths) last after being at the tail of the field all the way. *ANZ
