Promising filly Winx stepped up in class and maintained her unbeaten record with an impressive first-up win. She settled in a good spot, fourth one out and one back before moving up nicely at the turn. She hit the lead on passing the 400m and then drew away to win comfortably by two and three quarter lengths. She should appreciate stepping up in distance and looks set for a very good preparation. Alpha Miss settled in third place on the rails, got an inside run from the 200m and battled on quite well to gain second in a photo. Earthquake led from her inside draw (2). She travelled nicely in the lead (first 600m 36.16) but was under pressure half-way down the straight and fought on to hold third placing, racing below her best, resuming on the Heavy9 track. Sultry Feeling raced outside the leader, challenged that filly at the 300m and kept battling on for a sound fourth, beaten three lengths. Peggy Jean raced in sixth place, one off the rails, before moving up deep rounding the home turn. She put in a bid at the 300m but then just battled from that point to finish fifth beaten just over four lengths at her first run this preparation. Memorial was at the tail of the field all the way and disappointed in the conditions finishing (6.6 lengths) last. *ANZ
