Wouldnt It Be Nice was a distant seventh the eight-horse field, following a strong tempo. He stuck to the rails rounding the home turn and got a good turn through, going to fourth at the 200m. He then came with a strong late finish to score clearly at the post by a length. The outsider Nuclear Class travelled well in third place behind a solid pace. She moved up to hit the lead at the 200m and looked set to land a surprise win, only to be overhauled in the closing stages to finish second. Rain Affair showed his renowned pace and he raced outside the speedy I’m All The Talk to the turn. He went to the front at the 300m and then held on for third after working hard in the early stages. Didntcostalot was fourth to the turn. He briefly looked a threat at the 200m and then kept fighting on for (1.9 lengths) fourth. I’m All The Talk went quickly to lead but tired after turning for home to finish (2.9 lengths) fifth. Atmosphericalwas near the tail of the field to the turn and made ground, without threatening, to finish sixth (beaten three lengths) while the favourite Target In Sight was last and under pressure from the 600m before making late ground for (3.2 lengths) seventh. He should appreciate a firmer track and perhaps stepping up a bit in distance. *ANZ
