Sharnee Rose ($51) was a surprise winner but it was a good performance, nevertheless. She was steadied in the early stages and settled near the rear, wide with cover. She went to the extreme outside rounding the home turn, put in a strong dash to challenge at the 200m and finished a little too well for a narrow but impressive win. The well-supported Red Tracer ($2.40 fav) worked from her outside barrier (10) and settled about sixth, but trapped three wide without cover. She put in a run passing the 300m, challenged at the 200m and then fought on gamely for a game second, beaten only a head, in a strong first-up performance. Bennetta had a good trip in third spot on the rails, she switched out to challenge at the 300m and then fought on well for a close third. Top weight (59.5kg) Appearance raced in second last place in the ten-horse field to the turn. She kept running on well in the straight, putting up a very good effort, at her second run this preparation, for a most encouraging fourth. This three-time Group One winner has returned in excellent order. Driefontein was smartly away and led the field to the 200m but tired from that point to finish fifth, beaten two and half lengths. *ANZ
