Darley’s lightly raced colt Complacent, who won a Hawkesbury Maiden (1400m) at only his third start on 12 September, stepped up to win in Group Three company here. He began well from his inside barrier then eased to enjoy a good trip fifth on the rails. He switched back to the rails passing the 300m, took the lead at the 200m and battled on gamely for a narrow but impressive win. He has a lot of potential. Savvy Nature was eased from his outside barrier (12) and settled near the tail of the field. He tracked Drago most of the race, loomed to challenge at the 300m and fought strongly to the post, failing by only a head for a very good second. Drago was about ninth one off the rails before improving wide from the 600m point. He fanned wide at the bend, challenged nearing the 300m and fought on well for a sound third. Hooked was sixth one off the rails. He moved up wide nearing the turn and kept battling on for fourth, beaten four and half lengths, while Fuerza was handy all the way, took the lead at the 300m, before finishing fifth beaten just over five lengths. *ANZ
