Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m) winner Vancouver did not show much early pace and settled back in fifth place in the six-horse field. He then travelled well, moved up (with cover) at the home turn before switching out to make his run at the 300m. He responded in good style, hit the lead at the 50m and drew clear for an impressive first-up win. Outreach was smartly away from his outside barrier (6) and soon crossed to the lead. He then settled nicely, steadied the pace before grabbing a break at the 300m. He was only overhauled at the 50m and battled well for second, going very well on debut. Godolphin-raced colt Chamarel began well and settled well outside the leader. He challenged at the 300m and then held on quite nicely for a sound third on debut. Mawahibb was third on the rails to the home turn, had clear running in the straight and kept battling to just miss the minor placing to finish (4 lengths) fourth at his first race start.
