The lightly raced Robert Hickmott-trained four-year-old Wales has now raced twice for as many wins. He won at his first start in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield in April 2012 and this was his only start since. He was ridden quietly from his wide barrier (13) and settled back in 11th place, wide with cover, in the 16-horse field. He was giving the leader about eight lengths at the 600m, switched wide on straightening and came with a late run (wide-out) to win in the last few strides. He clearly is talented, should appreciate stepping up further in distance and is a horse to watch. *ANZ
