He switched out at the 400m, took a while to wind up under his top weight (60kg) then responded late to score a narrow but good win in the last few strides. Decircles went to the front and set a very steady early pace. He got a break as he lifted the tempo at the 400m and was only headed nearing the post for (half head) second. The favourite Tried And True raced behind the leader, looked the winner when he challenged at the 300m and then fought on for a close up third. Aeronautical was second last in the seven-horse field to the home turn and ran on late for fourth, beaten a length.
